Hello NCVC members and friends.

It's time for an update on our last event (Poker Run), We didn't have the turn out we had hoped for, from our members or the public.

What few members who participated in the run, either working or doing the run it's self did an excellent job and all were very charitable, we only had 13 people who did the ride and 3 of that 13 were club members.

Everyone who did the ride said it was laid out very well and they would be glad to come back and do the same run all over again.

We passed out over a thousand flyers and only pulled in 10 outside riders, I guess we did pretty good considering the competition we had.

First there was the Song Dog ranch, that was having their fall rally, which usually brings in around 2000 riders from all over the state, and than there was the MDA ride out of Sacramento which usually pulls in several hundred riders.

We had a ton of gifts for our raffle prizes and than we had our 50/50 which was around $160.00. Some of the raffle prizes were so large the winners couldn't take them home with them on their bikes so they donated them back to the club, and we auctioned them all off, and that brought in some good money too.

To boil it all down to the final analyses, we made a profit of $241.00 after all expenses were paid. So I guess you could say it was a success after all, and the thanks that are going out are directed to those most charitable members who opened up their wallets & purses to bid on the returned raffle prizes at the auction, that brought in the most money.

I want to give a great big well done to the following club members for all their hard work and dedication to the club.

To start out there is Don & Doris Brubaker. Don mapped out the route and rode & re rode it several times to make sure everything was just right. Than he made the rounds of all the dealers and passed out flyers and bummed raffle prizes, than he found the VFW park for us and set up the meeting for us to clinch the deal.    So Don & Doris we salute you and we love you very much, it's members like you that makes a club worth belonging too and the members proud to say they belong to that club.

Than Doris beat the bushes for raffle prizes as well as helping Don with the run. Plus she and her sister Deborah set up everything at the check in counter and arranged all the prizes and even wrote down the winning numbers and what prize that # was assigned to. Those two did an excellent job of running the event from the start to the finish. We love you girls and we feel very privileged to have you as members of our club.

Than we have George Rogers & Robert Webb. They passed out several hundred flyers themselves. And George hit all the dealers in the delta up for gift's. They took one whole day of their own time, to ride the route for Don, to see how it looked to someone who didn't set it up, their report came back positive, although Bob thought it was a little to long (5 hours), but everyone who rode it said it was just right.

Plus they did check point # 3 for us on the run.

So George & Robert we salute you and we also love you both for your generosity and dedication to the club.

Than we have Tom Hite, Tom passed out flyers in the Stockton & Lodi areas and collected raffle prizes for us. He also sold 50/50 tickets at the ride and he did the auction for us. Plus he helped out with the ticket drawings for the raffle prizes and than helped put the tickets on the prizes, he also figured out who rode the longest distance, who had the high & low poker hands. So Tom we salute you and we love you for your generosity & dedication to the club.

Now we come to Dale Bird & the love of his life. Pam Wright. Dale and Pam didn't get to go out and beat the bushes like the others did, but they made up for it in other ways, plus they took up the #4 check point and manned it until all the riders came through. Dale & Pam we salute you also for you dedication and generosity towards the club, and we also love you too.

Alan & Deborah Casner. We salute you for your generosity to the club, and all the help you gave us at the run, Deborah beat the bushes for us also and supplied us with an air plane ride in a restored Spearman:  biplane, this was one of the choices of the first place winner, the air plane ride or a set of tires, the winner took the tires and we finally auctioned off the plane ride, it seems as though everyone is afraid of airplanes right now. Deb & Alan we salute you too for your generosity & dedication to the club, we love you & we welcome you into the club as our latest members.

Fritz Wells we salute you for your dedication to the club and for donating your time to bring up the sweeper position & close out the ride, and you are loved by all also.

John & Dottie Adkins you deserve a great big salute also, but mostly for daring the roads down through the canyon in your motor home, I have been down through that canyon four times and I know how twisty those roads are. All I can say is it takes some mighty big gonads to drive a motor home through there. And Dottie I am still trying to figure out just what kind of an award we can present to you for riding all the way through there with him, You must have nerves of steel.

John also is our club story teller and he kept everyone occupied with rib tickling stories and jokes. John & Dottie, we salute you for your dedication and generosity to the club, you are loved by all and we are all looking forward to the X-Mas party this year, we know it's going to be a doozy.

Stuart Bowen we salute you also for your dedication to the club, and for your professional expert web site management and up keep. We are all sorry that your wife Mary Anne broke her arm and you guys were unable to make the event, but don't worry, we love you anyway.

Duane Stark, we salute you for your dedication & generosity to the club, and for all the work you put into helping us with the ride and other events we have held, and you are love and appreciated also.

There were a few other members who came out to the run, but didn't participate in the run, but we want to acknowledge you for your presents , Shirley Webb & Lori Hite, and my new bride Betty Walls, if I have missed anyone, please forgive me.

The winners of the high & low poker hands. Plus the 50/50 were none other than our own members Rex & Dannette Woodruff. Those rascals won everything but the longest distance rider, a guy from Salinas   actually  won it, George Donnelly, But the judges made a mistake in mileage and gave it to Fritz Wells who rode in from Watsonville, which is actually about 30 miles closer to Georgetown than Salinas is.

The prize was a $25.00 gift certificate from road rider, Fritz traded it off for something he liked better, so I will find out what George would like in place of that one, maybe I could give him one of the $50.00 gift certificates I have here for Fresno.

That about covers it all for now. Remember we have a meeting this coming Saturday in Modesto at 12:00pm @ the Cafe Orleans, 500 Kansas St, Check the web site for directions if you don't remember how to get there.

                                                                                                                                                Cheers to you all

                                                                                                                                                Uncle Ray
