Trip report by Uncle Ray:

On June 4th we, John Adkins & I headed north to Dunnigan Ca, where we met up with Bob Webb, George Rogers, Duane Stark, Jim Kramlich, Bob & Sandy Joyner. @0700 on Tuesday June the 5th we all pulled out for Bend Oregon, the weather was wonderful, this is motorcycle riding weather and we were all in 7th heaven. We arrived in Bend around 5:30pm, got our rooms, cleaned up a little, and than had a nice meal at Denny’s. John & I were playing a game of dominos rather than watching TV, when Sandy Joyner came in and said I love to play dominos, can I play too. John was a little suspicious of her, but I figured we could clean her out in no time flat. Wrong she kicked both of our butts; it was than that I decided we had been hustled.

I went over and talked to her husband about this and he said he had warned us about her and that he had no sympathy for us. Not only did he have no sympathy for us, but the rat turn coated on us too. He bought a Goldwing. But I must admit it is definitely a beautiful bike, To bad Kawasaki doesn't come out with a new one, they just lost a sale there.  Thursday morning @0700 we headed North out of Bend and I'm here to tell you it was colder then H, there was a very thin coat of ice on my trailer that morning. We rode for about an hour and a half and all the cigarette smokers were having withdrawals and wanted to stop for coffee at this little spot in the road, population 58, and I really believe that was counting old Red (the dog) laying on the sidewalk.
We went into the restaurant and ordered coffee, the waitress asked if we wanted anything to eat, and I told her no that we had breakfast in Bend. But ole turn coat Bob asked her if she had any sweet rolls, the answer was, I think the cook is making cinnamon rolls, she goes back to check and comes back with a big smile on her face and says yes we have cinnamon rolls. Now how many of you want one, we all raised our hands except for Duane & Sandy. She comes out with an armload of plates with a cinnamon roll on each plate.  When we saw the size of those rolls all of us just about fainted, I will swear they were at least 7" square x 3" high. To make a long story short, only one person ate his entire roll, and he will remain nameless for health reasons.
We arrived in Lewiston about 5:20pm, drove around town for 30 minutes looking for an entrance into the camp grounds at the fair grounds, Bob finally found it for us, we set up camp real quick and relaxed for the rest of the day.  Friday morning arrived dark and cloudy and cold, and it remained that way for the next three days, except for the times when it was raining, reminded me of Red River last year. The rally was ok; they put a lot of work into this one and than the weather turned bad on them, so you just have to take the bad with the good.  Duane Ash promised us a larger  & better rally for next year, but wouldn’t make any promises on the weather. Well I guess two out of three isn’t all that bad after all John, Bob & I got in about 3 hours of fishing on Sat morning, We caught probably 25 fish, but we were throwing them back, until we finally realized they just weren’t going to get any larger than 7 to 10”, than we started keeping them, we took 18 back to camp, john cleaned them and even cooked them. (What a guy).
Sunday morning broke with clouds and the promise of rain where we were and the promise of snow 500’ above us, Duane Stark had decided he was going home on Sunday, Bob & George decided to go with him, Bob & Sandy were going on to Montana to do some fly fishing and to show off their new Gold Wing. John & I had decided to hang around for one more day and do some more fishing. After the rest of the club had gone we picked up on the latest weather report, and it went from bad to worse, so we decided to haul it out of there too.  We had a very nice cold wet ride all the way to Boise Idaho and than on down to a small town in Oregon, where we spent the night. We got up Monday morning it was colder than H, but it wasn’t raining, we packed up and headed for Winnemucca Nevada where it was supposed to be warm & clear.  We spent that night in Boomtown Nevada, where John & I both left them a sizable donation, they need lots of money to run those places you know, so we donate to them from time to time.

Tuesday morning found us sitting outside the hotel wondering who the H left the gate open on the North Pole, It was 36deg, but by now we are tougher than an old boot and can handle this just fine, even though we are both in summer riding gear.
I left John in Merced and came on home, getting there at about 3:30PM. I guess all in all it was a fun time, I know if I had my druthers I would rather have had nice weather all the while. But than again we now have something to brag about the next time we gather around the campfire, who knows this story may even get to be a Paul Bunion size story after a few years. And after George Rogers gets through with it, do I dare even try to guess how big it will get? Yes I do believe I would do it all over again, but this time I, am taking my cold weather gear I don’t care if it’s 100 deg when we leave.
