It started out as a beautiful Saturday morning. Tom Hite showed up on
his Kawasaki 1100 at around 7AM, after just getting off work in Benicia.
Then Lori Hite showed up on her Harley 1200 around 9AM ready to go. We waited
until 9:30 for George Rogers and his wife Sue to show up. They didn't show
up so we headed the 2 miles to the Poker run starting point. Well, there
was George and Sue waiting for US. We got our communications WRONG AGAIN.
Anyway, we picked up our entrees and got started off on the Poker Run. Four
bikes in a row heading down some beautiful country roads towards Dixon with
Lori in the lead for awhile then Tom and I was bringing up the rear FOR
A CHANGE. Shirley was getting some real good pictures of everyone on their
bikes with the scenery flying by in the background.
We found the First Poker Stop without ANY problems
AT ALL. That's were it ended. George took over the lead after we all drew
our 2nd card (we got the first card at the start). We jumped onto I80 and
headed out to Highway 113. After about 20 miles and Lori trying to get Georges
attention, we pulled over to the side of the road and figured out we were
WAY off course. George decided he didn't want to lead anymore ( I know that
feeling myself after getting a group lost). Tom took over the lead and we
were on our way again. We found the 3rd stop (in Winters) with NO
PROBLEM. After we pulled in and got our third card up rides another Voyager.
Straddling it was Dale Bird and his nice looking co rider Pam. The rode
in all the way from Morgan Hills? and were late getting to the starting
point BUT do to our DETOUR, they caught up to us. We also were caught
up with by a BIG BUNCH of Harley riders and others in a group. After our
bunch had a cancer stick or two and some refreshments, we were again our
way again towards the forth poker stop which was "SUPPOSED" to be a TRUCK
we had to wave to in order to get a card. We took off and had a beautiful
ride up to and around Lake Berryessa and the Damn. It was a gorgeous day
for motorcyclist. On the road we were passed by 4 crotch rockets that passed
us so fast we thought they were being chased by the Police but they were
only doing THEIR THING. We moved over as far as we could to let them pass
as we were driving at a leisurely nice speed to ENJOY the scenery. Tom kept
us rolling just at the right pace to keep Shirley and Sue happy on the curves.
After another 20 miles we stopped at Georges and my
usual lunch stop to let the ladies stretch their legs and for me to take
some more pictures. What a beautiful day and far out scenery to enjoy. After
about 15 minutes we were on our way again to find that ROVING poker stop.
Amazing thing happened. On the last curve back to Fairfield, we saw a "CAR"
with a poker run sign. Stop 4 and nobody told them they were supposed to
be in a TRUCK. We drew our 4th card and were on our way again with Tom still
in the lead. He was doing an excellent job so nobody wanted to take over.
We pulled into the next poker stop without ANY trouble
even though the directions said make a Right and they were on the left at
the intersection. Again we ran into other cycles getting their cards. We
started talking and they had missed the ROVING poker stop 4. Come to find
out, stop 4 had to find a potty and SHE said a TREE just wouldn't work for
her. (They got to pick up their card at the end). We were getting REALLY
hungry about then so
we got on our trusty bikes and headed back to the last poker stop which
is where we started in Vacaville. After another 12 or 14 miles we
were back where we started at. We turned in our Poker hands and got in the
chow line. You talk about chow, WOW. Prime Rib, Ribs, and chicken
with salad and beans and ALL the trimmings. They had enough food to feed
an ARMY of bikers. We ate and ate and ate. During chow they called off the
winners of the poker run. Well, Dale got lowest hand for the club. Tom got
three door prizes and Sue got one and Shirley got one. We did REAL
GOOD on door prizes.
After this Dale and Pam had to leave for their 2 1/2
hour trip back. After they left, we had the bike games and George VOLUNTEERED
to help with. We didn't have any winners but Shirley actually rode with
her Son Tom to
do one of the games and wouldn't you know it, my CAMERA had dead batteries
so I only got ONE picture of the Son and Mother TEAM.
If they have another run next year we are going to
have to make it a CLUB run. It was GREAT.
