Hello All,

Ray Walls and I went to Porterville yesterday and checked everything out. The ex KOA is now called Eagle Nest and we both felt that this campground is not a option. It was run down, unkempt and unclean.

We rode on up to Lake Success <-----(click for camping info)and really liked what we saw. We were able to get a group site close to the lake and right next to a paved parking lot and bathrooms that you have to flush, this is a plus in my book. Also, there is a little mini-mart within walking distance. We think it's perfect for our needs. See photos. Our club is putting up the front money for the campsite. Figure $5.00 a night to camp. I'll just put a shoe box up next to my trailer for the money and people can make their own change.

DIRECTIONS TO MAY CAMP OUT/EVENT. TAKE HWY 99 SOUTH JUST PAST TIPTON CA, TAKE POPLAR AVE (AKA) HWY 190 EAST STAY ON HYW 190 ALL THE WAY TO LAKE SUCCESS, ABOUT 18 MILES FROM HWY 99. AS YOU GO BY THE LAKE WATCH FOR A SMALL SIGN ABOUT 24" SQUARE ON YOUR RIGHT, WITH ARROWS POINTING TO THE LEFT AND IT SAYS, BOATING, FISHING, CAMPING, AND PICNICKING. TURN LEFT THERE, FOLLOW THE ROAD ON PAST THE LITTLE STORE TO THE LARGE ASPHALT PARKING LOT. OVER IN THE SOUTH WEST CORNER YOU WILL SEE A SMALL BUILDING, THERE IS A ROAD THAT GOES TO THE RIGHT OF THIS BUILDING, TAKE IT AND IT WILL BRING YOU AROUND TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING, THIS IS THE RANGER STATION. TELL THEM YOU ARE WITH THE VOYAGER MOTORCYCLE CLUB, THEY WILL GIVE YOU A PASS AND TELL YOU WHERE WE ARE. JUST IN CASE THEY DON'T THOUGH. MAKE A LEFT TURN AS YOU COME AWAY FROM THE RANGER STATION AND GO STRAIGHT ACROSS THE PARKING LOT TO THE NORTH END. YOU WILL SEE US THERE. COME ONE COME ALL.
UNCLE RAY

The closest hotel worth looking at is a Best Western at 350 West Montgomery Av. in Porterville . It's only about 8 miles from the campsite and it has a Carrows hooked to it. I would think this is were most of us will be eating. Best Western only has 12 doubles left for the nights of May 16 & 17, and 6 of those are smoking. Better reserve soon. They have 20 non-smoking singles left. Your looking at about $76.50 for a single and $85.00 for a double. They do have AAA and other discounts that will save you about 10 bucks. Their toll free number is 1-877-781-7411.

There is also a Motel6 in Porterville that will cost ya approximatelly
$46/night.
